How it works
From first phone call to final lock test
Every Caribbean Hurricane Shutters project runs the same seven steps, whether it is a two-window cottage or a forty-unit condo building.
- 1. Free site survey — We walk the property, photograph every opening and talk through how you use the building — full-time, seasonal, rented or commercial. No sales pitch, no obligation.
- 2. Design Pressure analysis — Using the ASCE model we calculate the maximum wind load at your specific address, factoring exposure, elevation, opening size and building geometry. That output drives the system and the fastener pattern.
- 3. System recommendation and written quote — You get an opening-by-opening quote with the system, color, hardware and price for each. If a cheaper system meets the load, we say so in writing.
- 4. Permits and approvals — We prepare permits, product approval documentation and association architectural modification requests. Most clients never speak to a building department or board directly.
- 5. Fabrication — Everything is cut, punched and assembled in our shop from marine-grade extrusion. Typical fabrication runs three to five weeks after final field measurement.
- 6. Installation — Certified crews anchor into structural framing or masonry with 18-8 stainless fasteners. Most homes are complete in one to three days; commercial and resort work is phased.
- 7. Walkthrough, lock test and warranty — We deploy and lock every opening with you, hand over labeled panels and keys, register the warranty and file your insurance wind-mitigation documentation.

Common questions
Hurricane shutters are impact-rated systems — panels, folding tracks or rolldown slats — that cover windows, doors and other openings before a storm. When deployed they stop wind-driven debris from breaching the building envelope. If a single opening fails during a storm, internal pressure spikes and the roof is next. Shutters are what prevents that.
It depends on the building and how you use it. For full-time residents accordion shutters are the best balance of protection, ease of use and cost. For owners who are off-island when a storm forms, motorized rolldowns are the gold standard. Where an association controls appearance, Bahama or colonial systems usually satisfy both the board and the code.
Aluminum storm panels start at $18 per square foot installed and clear panels at $26. Accordion shutters run from $38, Bahama from $44, colonial from $46 and rolldowns from $52 per square foot, with electric motors adding about $700 per opening. A full home usually lands between $8,000 and $25,000 depending on the system and opening count.

Fabrication runs three to five weeks after final measurement. Installation is typically one to three days for a house, and we schedule larger commercial and resort projects in phases.
